Nominations for LSA’s 2020 Awards Now Open!

Nominations for the Law and Society Association's 2020 awards are now open! Each year, the LSA offers an array of awards for scholarship in the field of law and society presented at its Annual Meeting.The deadline for all award nominations is Jan. 20.

LSA PRIZES & AWARDS

 

Law and Society Association Article Prize – Nomination Form

The Law and Society Association Article Prize, recognizes exceptional scholarship in socio-legal studies for a journal article or chapter in an edited book.


Dissertation Prize – Nomination Form

The Law and Society Association presents one award to the dissertation that best represents outstanding work in law and society research.


John Hope Franklin Prize – Nomination Form

The John Hope Franklin Prize was established in 2010 by the Law and Society Association to recognize exceptional scholarship in the field of Race, Racism and the Law.


Graduate Student Paper Prize – Nomination Form

The Law and Society Association presents one award to the graduate student paper that best represents outstanding law and society research.


J. Willard Hurst Book Prize – Nomination Form

In the spirit of Willard Hurst's own work, the Hurst Book Prize is given to the best work in socio-legal history.


Law and Society Association International Prize – Nomination Form

The Law and Society Association International Prize is offered to a scholar, normally in residence outside the United States, in recognition of significant contributions to the advancement of knowledge in the field of law and society.


Herbert Jacob Book Prize – Nomination Form

Established in 1996 as the LSA Book Award, and re-named in memory of Herbert Jacob, past President of LSA, the competition is open to books from all fields of, and approaches to, law and society scholarship—excluding only works of socio-legal history, which are considered for the Hurst Prize.


Harry J. Kalven Jr. Prize – Nomination Form

The Harry J. Kalven, Jr. Award is awarded by the Law and Society Association for "empirical scholarship that has contributed most effectively to the advancement of research in law and society."


Legacy Award – Nomination Form

The LSA Legacy Award honors people whose contributions significantly helped to develop the Association through sustained commitment to the Association’s mission and legacy, extensive service, or scholarly publications that made a lasting contribution to the Association’s scholarly legacy but have not received a major Association award.


Ronald Pipkin Service Award – Nomination Form

The Ronald Pipkin Service Award was created in 2012, to honor the twenty-five year service of retiring Executive Officer, Ron Pipkin (Legal Studies, University of Massachusetts, Amherst).


Undergraduate Student Paper Prize – Nomination Form

The Law and Society Association presents one award to the undergraduate student paper that best represents outstanding law and society research.


Stan Wheeler Mentorship Award – Nomination Form

In honor of the memory of Stanton Wheeler (Sociology/Law, Yale University), whose mentorship was so important to so many members of the Association, the Stan Wheeler Mentorship Award was created in 2008.
